.or.at is a second level domain for .at
.or.at - intended for organizations (unrestricted registration)
Upon registration of a .at-domain, a contractual relationship is closed between the domain holder and the registry nic.at (see General Terms and Conditions), even if the domain was registered by an ISP or registrar on behalf of the customer. Therefore, transactions like a cancellation or change of holder must be explicitly signed by the domain holder, or the registrar must have a proper confirmation, respectively.
In contrast, for TLDs like .com, .net, or .info there is NO contract between the domain holder and the registry, but rather between the registry and the registrar. This means that the registrar has got full authority over the domain without the need of sending the domain holder’s authorization to the registry. Each system has its advantages and disadvantages, but as a matter of fact, the contractual relationship and the confirmation procedures are clearly defined in the General Terms and Conditions of nic.at and cannot be circumvented.
Since .OR.AT enables you to protect your business online, a domain with .OR.AT makes your web address unique and easy to memorize. A .OR.AT extension is doing much more, helping you reach and communicate with the audience in Austria.
